My founder story

My career has evolved in ways I could never have predicted, but one thread has remained constant — a fascination with how we connect people to solve complex problems.

I began my career in urban design, where I became fascinated by the relationship between people, place, and natural systems. This taught me to see the world as interconnected — shaped not simply by individual elements, but by the relationships and organising principles between those elements.

Systems thinking changed the way I saw the world and how I approached my work.

As my career moved into organisational design and transformation, I began applying the same thinking inside organisations. I could see that many of the challenges described as cultural, behavioural, or even individual were often symptomatic of workplace conditions. People were responding to the conditions around them.

One particularly challenging day when I was struggling to build connection across teams, one of my most beloved mentors told me:

“You’re the Babel fish.”

For those who know The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, the Babel fish translates any language so everyone can understand one another. Without a language everyone understood — how could we progress together?

This one comment shifted how I approached my work. It has led me to focus on building a shared language first in any work I lead with groups, to enable them to connect more effectively through complexity.

Square Loop brings together a career spent thinking about people, systems and change. It is built on a simple belief:

People respond to the conditions they’re working in.

When we understand that we are all part of interconnected systems, something important shifts. We can move away from blaming individuals, teams or leaders and begin asking a different question:

What conditions do we need to create to help people do their best work together?

Square Loop gives teams a shared language and a practical process to answer that question for themselves — and to design those conditions directly into the work they are doing together.

My vision for Square Loop comes from something I have come to believe deeply, through both my life and my work, together we can create:

A world of work where our humanness is our greatest advantage.

Square Loop is just beginning.
